Sweet little Quinn had her birthday back in June and had the most adorable cake smash ever! She's actually the only baby I've had willingly (after some coaxing) smash her cake and eat it! Her mama made the cake and the banner and she did such a great job! She acted like it was awful in some photos but you know she had so much fun. She warmed right up to me from the start and gave me the cutest smiles ever!!! And I am absolutely in love with her lilac & gold romper her mama brought for the cake smash part!
This sweet babe's session went absolutely perfectly! His sister cooperated and gave me the best smiles ever & then daddy took her for lunch and I got so many great shots of him! He slept the entire session & didn't wake up once until we were done. I wish all babies' sessions went that well! He was a dream to photograph and I hope to see this amazing bunch back for family photos in the fall!
This family was the winner of my first model call of 2017. I had plans for this sweet FOURTH baby girl of the family, but she had other plans. She was so beautiful, but made me work for the shots I got, which had nothing to do with any of the shots I wanted. I still think it was worth it all though because the photos I did get are perfect, to me anyways! And to her mama. Can you imagine having FOUR girls?! I only have two and it's intense, haha.
It's been pointed out to me that I like to incorporate nature into my images where I can and maybe that's where I was struggling with this girl. She was eating one last time and while I waited I was thinking in my head, "Wow, this isn't going like I had planned!" and I was walking around the client's home and noticed she had some pussy willows on a table and a bucket of what I think were birch branches, and I got a burst of inspiration and made a little makeshift f
This gorgeous lady booked me for both the maternity & newborn experiences of her second son that will be born in the next two weeks. I cannot wait. Her oldest son has got to be the sweetest little guy and she was such a stunner in all my gowns. It was such a delight to do this session. She wanted to do a maternity boudoir feel and we achieved that perfectly. Some of the images here are just a representation but not all of them are shown here, for obvious reasons.
This session was done at the gorgeous Hotel Arts in downtown Calgary. I like to use this hotel because the suites are stunning & huge and there is so much opportunity for different shots. She got her hair & makeup done professionally by Artistry by Bobi who has actually done a few of the lovely mamas I've photographed recently, her work is stunning! You can check out her facebook page here.
I loved this session! This little babe worked with me so well, I got so many good shots and she just let me go to town on different poses and it was amazing! And her big brother was so eager to help me out! I love this family!
Sweet little Harlow! This backdrop was delightful. I had other plans for this sessions and I am grateful they didn't work out. So when Harlow's gorgeous mama booked her session with me, it was still the beginning of January and I remember she told me she wanted floral, pink and gold. Done. I was on it. I had it all mapped out in that same day, lined my ducks up in a row and went on my merry way thinking that I had it all planned out and was set.
Fast forward two months and two days before Harlow's session I was missing the floral backdrop that I had planned to use and had to come up with something else off the top of my head, and on the fly. Naturally a trip to Michael's and some hot glue should do the trick. I bought some Savage Seamless Paper and got to work, gluing flowers I bought onto the paper to create this stunning backdrop, custom made just for Harlow! It turned out so so nice and her mama made the most gorgeous little cake, it was all so perfect & meant to be. You can see a sped up clip of me (and my kids and my amazingly helpful sister) making the backdrop here.
On a side note, if you're ever in the market for a makeup artist (a ridiculously gorgeous, talented and sweet makeup artist, you can book Harlow's mama Kelsey over at Something Borrow Beauty. I love the lovely fellow mom bosses I get to work with!
I hope you enjoy this session as much as I did! Have a happy week!
William came to me for his newborn session last January! He was the first babe of 2016 and he was ALSO the only boy I photographed the entire year of 2016! He was ALMOST also the first boy of 2017 but he was beat out by another little newborn, only by week or so.
His session went so well. He had a Dumbo themed newborn session and his mamma made all the decorations for his cake smash session.
His cake was made by the lovely Avenue Bakery here in Airdrie, here is their website and facebook page.
I love this family and can't wait to photograph them again!
I was so lucky to shoot this gorgeous babe when she graced the world back in February of this year. I made the most adorable little wreath to lay her in because her mamma wanted her session to be rustic and I was struggling finding something that I felt was perfect enough for her, especially in February, although we were having above normal warmth for that time of the year.
So when her family contacted me to do a milestone session for her, I was tickled! She is seriously the most beautiful baby, I can't even handle it. I barely had to edit her images because she is just so radiant, however she wore a glitter tutu for some of her photos so I'll be finding that joy in my studio for the next few months, totally worth it though!
This one photo stood out to me though through this session, I guess you would consider it an outtake but I LOVED it and included it in their gallery because it really shows what being a family is, what being the parent of a child really is. As the child grows you see less and less of the parent but they're always in the background, always behind the scenes. They are always there to catch you when you fall, when you take steps that you're a little uneasy about. It's a beautiful thing. So I wanted to separate that photo from the rest because I love it so much! I just might put it on my wall in my studio!
I have quite a few clients that ask me about price lists for my work and I have one I swear. But I have wanted to put together a little visual to go with my pricing sheet for months now so that when clients were looking over my products, they could see what things actually were, how they look on a wall. I have a wall in my studio that I have each type of mounted print I offer and a few canvases I have had made to showcase my work but if you are a wedding or engagement client, or you've had a family session done outdoors, the chances of you seeing my work hanging on my wall in my little studio is pretty slim. Newborn clients see it and folks who are coming for cakes mashes or Christmas minis, but that's about it and that's only a small percentage of my clients.
So I finally buckled down and took the shot I wanted of each of these mounted prints I have so the following will be a description of each of those as well as the canvases I offer, and photos to match so that you can see exactly WHAT the difference is between a standout mounted print and a canvas, or a masonite and a matboard print and WHY you want these prints displayed in your home!
MOUNTED PRINTS - WHY a mounted print vs. a standard print?
Mounted prints are paper photographs that have been mounted to a sturdy material whether it's white or black styrene or masonite, matboard or a type of particle board. These surfaces are so much more durable than a regular paper photographic print, they are less likely to warp, they last much longer and you can simply mount them to a wall as they are and they look phenomenal or you can choose to frame them (except a Standout, which comes ready to hang out of the packaging and looks fabulous!). You don't have to worry about them getting kinked or bent or torn if they are mounted and you can order them to give as gifts and your family and friends can unwrap them and instantly hang them on the wall!
Standout Mounted Prints
Standout Mounted Prints are my FAVOURITE!! Well I'm not sure I can say that, I love all the mounted prints. I feel like they just class up and toughen up my prints just a little bit and I love it. So standout mounted prints, they look a lot like canvases. They are a piece of photographic paper (your image, in any texture you'd like - from regular lustre or glossy paper to linen, or pebble texture, metallic paper, embassy textured paper. Any combination, you name it I will make it for you!) that is pressed to a piece of lightweight foam and encased in sleek plastic edging. These are FANTASTIC, they look so great, so classy and top of the line but they're amazingly priced and very lightweight. In fact, they weigh next to nothing. They come with a couple holes in the back to hang on a wall, or you can prop them in an easel. I like to get those 3M velcro strips and stick them to the wall. Easy Peasy!
I LOVE CANVASES. How strong and sturdy these are. These are perfect when you want to take your images to the next level. In the baby's nursery, on your dominant photo wall in your living room, along your hallway walls. This amazing work will make your memories stand out and really pop for everyone to see. Depending on the size of canvas you would like to order you can choose the thickness of the canvas, anywhere from 1' to 1.5".
These are of course just some of the products that Lace & Locket Photography offers. I will be doing a post about all the albums and books I offer for Weddings, Engagements and Newborns. I also offer matted prints for guest signing at weddings, thank you cards, birth announcements but I will save those for another time.
If you would like to see any of these products in person, please feel free to contact me and I would be glad to come over or to meet you for a coffee and bring all my studio samples so you can see and touch for yourself! You can also email me for a current price list.
Until next time!
