Fresh 48 Sessions | Calgary Premier Newborn Photographer | Lace & Locket Photography

I recently added Fresh 48 sessions to my collection of services and then I got a lot of questions about what exactly a Fresh 48 Session is so I thought I'd clarify!

Fresh 48 sessions are a documentary style approach to capturing those first raw moments after delivery and before real life resumes. These images are meant to capture those raw moments in the hospital that you do not want to forget like skin to skin, those first facial expressions & how new and fresh babe is, they change so much that first week. These are meant to capture the first bonding moments, first cuddles, first yawns. These sessions are done within 24-48 hours of giving birth, at your place of birth, whether it's in a hospital, birthing centre or a home birth.

Unlike my other newborn session packages, these do not come with props or wraps, there is no posing or pushing stray hairs out of your face or adjusting posture.
These lifestyle sessions are the perfect way to document those first hours with babe without having the whole labour & birth photographed.

Baby A | Airdrie Maternity + Newborn | Calgary, AB | Lace & Locket Photography | Maternity & Newborn Photographer

This family was the BEST to photograph. I felt like we had a great connection and we laughed and giggled during both sessions that we spent together. I was so happy to hear when little baby A had arrived and I could finally hold her. You could tell that these folks were just so excited, there's something so so special about your first baby. Subsequent babies are incredible too but that first one....everything is so new and exciting and you get to learn about all this stuff, some of it is a little wow but it's still so exhilerating! I LOVED working with this family and I am so honoured they chose me, and I hope to see them back in the future!

Baby E | December Baby | Calgary Newborn Photographer | Lace & Locket Photography

This session was so much fun! This family was so amazing to photograph, so sweet & caring. They were so excited to have their new baby girl join their family you could tell she was truly a princess before she even came to into the world. Her grandpa was so excited he made her a little frame that we laid her in to use for a couple of the shots, and I brought my white baroque frame to lay her in since she was the cutest, sweetest little thing! I was so happy this family chose me to photograph their precious little princess joining their family!

So I've redesigned my newborn packages fresh for 2017. Previously I only had one package available for everyone and I wanted to be able to offer more than just one option for folks. I have spent a lot of time researching products and things that are most important to clients and I want to be able to offer something for everyone.

I realized though that some of the 'terms' in my package descriptions may be a little confusing to some so I thought I would break it down and make it super easy to understand!

What is a beanbag shot?
These are my favourite! The set up is done on a large beanbag specifically sold to newborn photographers (therefore, very expensive) for shots using mainly blankets or fabrics as a backdrop versus an actual paper or vinyl backdrop. The following photos are samples of what a setup of a beanbag pose looks like and what the photos generally look like.

What is a styled pose? (Also known as a basket pose or a prop pose)
These shots usually involve the babe in a container or basket of some kind.

Lifestyle Poses
Lifestyle poses are what bring newborns most to life, they show families and Mom's love and daddy's strength in images. I love them and they are so powerful.

Baby W- First Newborn of 2016!

This sweet little boy was so interesting to shoot. Normally I really like to shoot babies within the first 7 days, I know other photographers are more lenient with their timeframes but I just like that gap for me. This little dude was only 4 days I think when he came to me, and he made me work! He would't have me swaddle him, and he was aware of me the entire time! He was just so awake for only being 4 days old he kept me on my toes, I didn't mind though he was just so tiny and cute I really just wanted the extra time to cuddle him.

Then of course as fate would have it, it was the second session of the year, first session in-studio so naturally something needs to malfunction- MY LIGHTS!! They didnt waste any time getting to it either, 5 snaps into the session I think. So very frustrating so I offered to reshoot at the client's home a couple days later and wouldn't you know it, much more settled, much more willing to let me manipulate him and put him into different poses.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE baby feet ( I'm going to make a book!) but I have to say, my favourite part of this one was his hair. So much hair! What an angel. Despite the set backs, I was so happy he was my first baby of the new year!
